Reviews
on Beeradvocate.com after the 2003 festival:
“The Kennett Square Beer Fest was a smashing success this year. The
Connoisseur Tasting session was great with some of those one-time,
one-of-a-kind brews available from some of our best local brewers.”
“Major kudos to Historic Kennett Square on an outstanding beer
fest. This one has just become a must especially since its hosted
in the picturesque town of Kennett Square.”
“Historic Kennett Square did an awesome job. Just a seamless
event.”
“It was a #1, top notch event. One of the best run events.”
“An event I will most definitely be returning to. Done right from
the start! No big lines, top notch brewers and a great band.”
on a Belgian Beer site known
as the Burgundian Babble Belt:
“Have to add my kudos re: a well-executed festival. As someone from
the commercial side, it’s great to see a well-organized festival
with a bunch of well-behaved patrons who really are interested in
beer. All too frequently, it is quite a different story . . . in
any case, thanks for making my second participation an even better
one than last year.”

“You throw one heck of a festival. I had a great time. Everything
was perfect. Not too crowded out in the large tents, plenty of
space to see everyone. And the special event was top notch. Felt
like royalty. All the great breweries bringing their best stuff.”
“Thanks for the great fest and the hospitality. I’ve cut down on
beer fests because they are often too loud/crowded/unpleasant and
too often the brewers just bring standard stuff. But the Kennettfest had a great atmosphere and the brewers brought a nice
variety of beers and the connoisseur tasting was terrific. I’ll be
back.”
“Fantastic day. Great beer event and a great town festival. Can’t
wait until next year’s.”

2003: A Tale of Two Fests
By Chuck Cook
“I recently had the pleasure of attending two fine beer fest on the
East Coast. The first was the Kennett Brewfest, held in conjunction
with that southeast Pennsylvania town’s Mushroom Festival on
September 6, 2003
(editor's note: this year's Brewfest is in
October).
I advise anyone to attend this little gem of a beer fest if in the
Philly area next September!
The beer selection was very good, tasty food was available, and
there was a Connoisseur’s Tasting session held before the fest with
a number of special brews from about 10 breweries . . . .
I think the main things that made this fest special was that so
many brewers and owners were there, pouring their own beer. Names
like Bill Covaleski of Victory, Sam Calagione of Dogfish Head,
Brian O’Reilly of Sly Fox, Scott Morrison of MecKenzie Brewhouse,
Tom and Peggy Baker of Heavyweight, Volker Stewart of Brewer’s Art,
Dan Weirback of Weyerbacher, Tom Kehoe of Yards and more.
With around 2,000 attendees, the fest was a real success, and the
organizers told me the fest will be a repeat next year. I advise
anyone to attend this little gem of a beer fest in the Philly area
next September.
(editor's note: this year's Brewfest is in
October).
